Honest advice on what your tree actually needs

How it works

Four steps, no surprises

No call centre, no sales rep, and no quote by text message sight-unseen.

  1. Ring Dave

One call, straight to the person doing the work. Tell him roughly what you have and where you are.

  2. Free on-site look

He comes and stands under the tree. Access, drop zones and what is underneath are what set the price — none of that can be judged from a photo.

  3. A clear quote

What is being done, how, and what it costs. No obligation, no pressure, and an honest answer if the job you asked for is not the job you need.

  4. Done and cleaned up

Work carried out safely, all debris removed, and the site raked off. Mulch and firewood left behind if you want it.

Tree Pruning & Trimming

What it costs

Straight answers on price

Most of this trade will not tell you what things cost, so here it is. These are typical Auckland market ranges — not a quote — and your actual price comes from the free on-site look.

Indicative Auckland tree work price ranges
JobTypical Auckland rangeWhat moves the price
Tree Removal$300 – $2,000+Typical Auckland market range. Small, open-access trees sit at the bottom; large trees over buildings with crane or difficult access sit well above the top.
Tree Pruning & Trimming$150 – $500Typical Auckland market range for a single tree. Large specimen trees, difficult access or full-day crown reductions run higher.
Stump Grinding$100 – $400Typical Auckland market range per stump. Multiple stumps in one visit cost less each; very large stumps or difficult access cost more.
Hedge TrimmingQuoted per hedgePriced on length, height, species and access. A routine maintenance trim on an established hedge is a fraction of the cost of a first-time rescue reduction.

Questions

The things people ask first

Consent, cost, clean-up and access — answered honestly.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Quotes are free, done on site, and there is no obligation to book. Tree work simply cannot be priced accurately from a photo or a phone description — the access, the drop zone, what is underneath the tree and how the wood has to come down are what set the price.

How much does tree work cost in Auckland?

Broad market ranges: tree removal roughly $300 to $2,000 or more depending on size and access, pruning around $150 to $500 per tree, and stump grinding around $100 to $400 per stump. Those are typical Auckland ranges rather than a North Arbor Treez quote — your actual price comes from the free on-site assessment. Grouping several jobs into one visit is almost always cheaper than booking them separately.

Do I need council consent to remove a tree in Auckland?

Often not. Blanket protection for urban trees was removed some years ago, so most trees on a private Auckland section can be removed without consent. Consent is still required for Scheduled Notable Trees, trees within a Significant Ecological Area, trees in the road reserve or on council land, and vegetation caught by heritage, riparian or coastal overlays. The Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area is stricter again. You can check your address on Auckland Council's GeoMaps in a couple of minutes. Dave will flag anything obvious at the quote, but confirming the rules for your property is the owner's responsibility and the rules do get updated.

Do you take all the branches and wood away?

Yes — full clean-up is part of every job. Branch material is chipped on site where the chipper can reach, trunk wood is cut and removed, and the site is raked off. If you would rather keep the mulch for your garden or the trunk rounds for firewood, just say so at the quote; it costs less than carting it away and plenty of people want it.

Can you work in a back yard with no vehicle access?

Yes. It is routine on Auckland sections. Where nothing can get in, the tree is climbed, material is lowered on rigging lines, and it is carried out. It takes longer than an open site and the quote reflects the access rather than just the tree.

How do I know if my tree is dangerous?

The signals worth acting on are: dead limbs or bare branches in the canopy, mushrooms or bracket fungi at the base or on the trunk, deep cracks or hollow-sounding wood, soil lifting or cracking on one side of the base, and a lean that has visibly changed. Any of those on a tree over a house, a driveway or where people sit is worth an assessment.
