Almost every rural block up here has a windbreak planted forty or fifty years ago — macrocarpa, pine, poplar, casuarina, gum. They have done their job and are now too tall to be stable, shedding limbs over fences and stock lanes, and shading more paddock than they shelter.

Clearing weed species — wattle, privet, woolly nightshade, moth plant — is generally fine and genuinely useful. Removing native canopy needs checking first.
