Millwater, Silverdale and the surrounding developments have gone in fast with fast-growing landscape planting. Right now those trees are small. Within a decade a meaningful number of them will be against a wall, under an eave, or over a shared drive.

Formative pruning while they are young is trivial work with a permanent payoff — single leader, sensible branch spacing, clearance set early. It is the cheapest tree work available and hardly anyone books it.

The lifestyle blocks around Silverdale, Wainui and Dairy Flat carry macrocarpa, pine and gum belts planted decades ago as windbreaks. They are now tall, top-heavy and dropping limbs, often over a fence line or a building that was added later.

Options are a hard reduction to a maintainable height, a thin so wind passes through instead of pushing, or staged removal and replacement. Open access out here means the bigger jobs are more economic than the same work in town.

Silverdale still has land coming out of paddock and scrub into build sites. Clearing means the trees, the scrub, and crucially the stumps — nothing gets poured over a root crown, and weed species like wattle and privet resprout from anything left in the ground.
