Arborist in Takapuna
Takapuna packs beachfront pōhutukawa, mature garden trees on the older Lake Pupuke streets, and an increasing amount of townhouse infill with almost no room to work, into a very small area. North Arbor Treez has been working here for over 25 years and knows the difference each of those makes to a job.

Honest advice on what your tree actually needs
Beachfront trees and salt wind
Everything on the seaward side of Takapuna lives in salt. Canopies get burnt on the exposed face, growth pushes inland, and trees end up visibly one-sided. Pruning to correct that means reducing the sheltered side to rebalance rather than hacking at the burnt face, which just makes the lean worse.
The pōhutukawa along the beach reserve and the esplanade are a common source of confusion. Many are on council land or carry protection, and the ones on private property still need a careful hand — pōhutukawa seal wounds slowly and respond badly to heavy cuts. If yours is anywhere near the reserve boundary, it is worth checking your address on Auckland Council's GeoMaps before booking anything.
Lake Pupuke's older gardens
The streets around Lake Pupuke carry some of the best mature garden trees on the Shore — liquidambar, oak, magnolia, camphor, big old plane and the occasional Norfolk pine. Most were planted mid-century on sections that have since been subdivided, so a tree that had room in 1965 is now overhanging two properties and a driveway.
The usual work here is crown reduction and thinning to keep good trees where they are, plus deadwooding, because the older specimens carry a lot of dead in the upper canopy that comes down in a southerly.
Infill sites and access
Takapuna's newer townhouse developments are the tightest-access work on the Shore. Shared driveways, no lawn, a courtyard fence, and a tree that has to come out over a neighbour's roof with nowhere to drop anything. That is rigging work — every piece lowered on a line — and it takes as long as it takes.
The practical implication is that phone quotes for Takapuna are close to meaningless. Dave will come and look, tell you what the access actually allows, and price the method rather than the tree.

Questions
Takapuna — common questions
Can I prune the pōhutukawa on my Takapuna property?
Often yes, if it is on your land and not scheduled or inside a protected overlay — but the coastal strip through Takapuna has plenty of both, and trees in the reserve are council trees regardless. Check your address on Auckland Council's GeoMaps first. Either way, pōhutukawa want a light, well-placed cut rather than a reduction.
Can you work on a Takapuna townhouse with no vehicle access?
Yes. Where nothing can get in, material is rigged down and hand-carried out. It is slower than an open section and the quote reflects that, which is why it gets priced on site.
